When world steam enthusiasts think of steam locomotives, they don’t usually think of Southern European steam. It is a pity. If one is familiar with Italian architecture and inventions through history, then one needs to equate Italy’s contributions to the world. The 685 class of express steam locomotives of Italy are amongst the elegant and nicely designed steam engines of the 20th century. For its size, it was capable of great speeds and power.
